We Sponsored T-Shirts for NHS Grampian’s Race for Life Entry

The 2013 5 x 50 Challenge took place from Sunday 31st March to Sunday 19th May 2013 and required the participants to run, walk or cycle 5 kilometers every day for 50 days to help change their own fitness/health habits for a lifetime. The registration fees went in aid of Comic Relief.

We sponsored a team of 13 people which included Infection Prevention and Control professionals from NHS Grampian, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and some of our own staff at Daniels. They used the 5 x 50 global challenge as part of their training for the Scottish Race for Life 5k run. We provided shirts for the team and the shareability of DANIbear as a motivational tool for the challenge. (The team was called “Team Grin and #DANIbear It”)

Karen Wares (Local Health Board Co-ordinator), one of the NHS Grampian ladies to participate, said that with the team having the shirts and DANIbear as a mascot meant that all “13 members were motivated, supportive and shared their experiences of the 5×50 challenge through Twitter (Hashtag #GrinandDANIbearIt) and email, sharing both the highs and the lows!” She was particularly inspired to see how Twitter had managed to really facilitate the motivation in the team so that it helped with the team fulfilling the challenge (and even those that didn’t take part enjoyed it!)

We received many Tweets of encouragement during the 5×50 challenge – it was like having lots of people in the stadium during a race cheering for us!

Karen, together with Pamela Harrison (Infection Prevention and Control Manager, NHS Grampian) were really kind enough to share this with us after the race:

“We consider Daniels ‘Friends first and business second’. However our experience of Daniels is that they are undoubtedly a successful and innovative company, especially in their approaches to their customer involvement. A big thank you for your sponsorship of the t-shirts but more importantly for making the challenge so much fun throughout…..and agreeing to sign up to the next one!”
